What band started out as an acoustic duo and later transformed into a extreme metal trio? That would be none other than The.Daisy.Anthesis. This new Saint Johns, New Brunswick act just recently signed a deal with Diminished Fifth Records to release their full length debut Surface And The Sky. Prior to inking this contract the band was featured on the compilation The Music of Artisanship & War: Volume II released by D5R.

“Pretty And Pitied”, a track on this compilation, was also featured on their new release Surface And The Sky. It begins the album with a band breakdown that leads into some complex riffage. Andrew Martin performs some simple but heavy beats to keep ‘the Scotts’ in line. Scott Miller’s guitar riffs switch between palm muted breakdowns and complex unique sounding lines while the other Scott, Scott Lilly, performs a complimentary style on bass. Not only do the two Scotts perform on the strings, they also do vocals ranging from low growls to high screams. This formula makes for an extreme album.

One very memorable song is “Nothing”. It begins with soft instrumentals then flips to The.Daisy.Anthesis.’ familiar heavy sound. A great divider of a song, it gives the listener a rest from all of the band’s usual musical chaos. Another track worth checking, and a favourite of mine is “In the Eyes of the Prosecutor”. I love the guitar riffing in this song from start to finish.

The.Daisy.Anthesis. are an unusual but dynamic sounding trio who have a ton of potential. I hope they tour Ontario in the near future so I can see these chaotic songs live. Fans of Psyopus, The Red Chord, The_Network and Beneath The Massacre will really enjoy The.Daisy.Anthesis. Rock me out Scotties… and Andrew!  [ END ]
