Various Artists – “Facedown Records Spring Sampler 2010”

Facedown Records has gathered some of their most popular bands to create this diverse collection of extreme metal and hardcore destined to please fans of all things loud. I have had the opportunity to review and or interview most of the bands contained on this collection and honestly I really dig the track listing; a good portion of the bands are currently in regular rotation on my player.

This disc hits hard and doesn’t let up. It is a worthy release that displays some of the genres finest musicians and innovators as well as some up and coming acts that are sure to make their mark on the scene. This Facedown sampler proves how significant and noteworthy the labels roster really is.

I have long been a fan of bands such as Sleeping Giant, War Of Ages and Call To Preserve all of whom are present and accounted for on this disc. There are however many others that provide a punishing battering that fans will love, Saving Grace and Impending Doom are just two good examples.

Guttural growls and massive breakdowns abound on this aural assault. Ferocious and intense right from the very beginning, the listener is barraged by a wall of super distorted guitars and in your face vocals. At the end of the day, I think this disc, though a sampler, is a valuable addition to any CD collection, or a perfect jumping off point for anyone that wants a quick introduction to the Facedown roster and what they offer.  [ END ]
