Circus Maximus – “Isolate”
Isolate, the 2007 release from Circus Maximus is nothing short of stunning. I was not sure what to expect when I popped this disc into my player but I was very shocked by what I heard. Isolate, the 2007 release from Circus Maximus is nothing short of stunning. I was not sure what to expect when I popped this disc into my player but I was very shocked by what I heard. Really, this is a record of massive proportions; it is really that good. Maybe it is the result of all of my years of studio work but I have a fondness for big, polished, well-produced metal and I feel this record has all of those traits and more. The guitar shredding is jaw droppingly good and includes some significant riffing and remarkably tasteful solos. The vocalist, is first-rate and I was immediately reminded a great deal of Geoff Tate of Queensryche fame, they are that good.
While the songs are not necessarily head banging heavy they have a lot to offer nevertheless. They all have a healthy dose of progressive metal to them complete with keyboard-laced tunes that that long to be played at top volume. This disc seems custom made for highway driving at top speed with both the windows and top down.
Highlights and/or personal favorites of mine include the “Sane No More” and “Arrival Of Love” mainly because they are both built around unbelievably catchy guitar riffs that grabbed a hold my attention from the very beginning and drew me in.
As I mentioned earlier, I feel Isolates’ biggest strength is in the production and songwriting. It is the element that stands out the most to me. This release is a big… huge affair. If you are a fan of melodic or progressive metal than this disc will be right up your alley. [ END ]
