Take That (w/ Olly Murs) Kick Off Four-Night Leeds Stint with Hit-Laden Spectacular [Photos]

Barely 24 hours before the first night of Take That’s four-night residency at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, special guest for the tour, Olly Murs, became a father and was pictured leaving the hospital with his wife and new child. Despite his mind being understanding on other more important matters, that didn’t stop the Essex singer-songwriter from putting on the kind of performance you come to expect from him.

A high-energy pop show with all the razzamatazz associated with Olly, the singer shows no signs of tiredness from his whirlwind twenty-fours. Strutting and racing about the stage with an understandably huge smile plastered across his face, this was certainly an emotional night for the roguish singer-songwriter. With the set dedicated to his daughter featuring covers of “Let’s Twist Again” and “Shout” along with his material, you could imagine his new family enjoying this as much as he was.

Pop sensation Take That is out on the road celebrating thirty-four years as not only a group but also one of the most successful British boy bands of the last three decades. A sold-out UK arena tour will be shortly followed by another sold-out UK stadium tour this Summer before the three-piece heads out to mainland Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand before the year is out.

Seeing the band perform, it’s easy to see why they’ve been at the top of the league for so long. Their two-hour spectacular has it all. The production is colossal, so big, in fact, that a condensed version is used for this run in Yorkshire. The sound is flawless. There are costume changes. Pyro. Confetti. That’s before we’ve even given the twenty-seven-song setlist a mention.

Promoting their new album, This Life, the group appears on stage to “Keep Your Head Up,” followed by “Windows,” “Giants,” and “Days I Hate Myself.” The rest of the set sees the group wheel out a mix of big hitters like “Shine” and “Back For Good” while each member takes turns with their tracks.

Of course, the night ends with the obligatory hits “Never Forget” and “Rule The World” as the first of these four shows in Leeds comes to a conclusion in spectacular fashion.
