For Lack of a Term Premieres Their Astute New EP ‘Through The Dog Years’
There are plenty of good times to go around with For Lack of a Term’s latest EP, ‘Through the Dog Years’ (Manic Kat Records). Hit up the album premiere today!
When you see the name Manic Kat Records attached to it, you know you’re going to have a good time, and there are plenty of good times to go around with For Lack of a Term’s latest EP, Through the Dog Years.
Manic Kat is, of course, the famed and highly regarded independent punk rock imprint known for churning out some of today’s finest pop-punk artists, and they have struck gold again with For Lack of a Term, who joined the Manic Kat family last year. Hailing from the suburban locale of Yonkers, New York, the quartet is highly skilled at bringing together hook-laden, radio-friendly choruses with driving guitars and that pop-punk charm and appeal.
Through the Dog Years is not only a great title for a record, but it’s also a suggestive one of our approach and experience of everyday life. Commenting on the EP, lead singer Ryan Demspey says:
“Through the Dog Years is a collection of tracks that take us through the highs and the lows and how it seems we could be passing through life slowly, beautifully and painfully, while at the same time much too rapidly.”
Featuring five brand new highly melodic tracks, the writing and recording of Through the Dog Years was heavily influenced by ’00s punk rock, particularly Matchbook Romance and Jimmy Eat World, bringing you a decent helping of nostalgia but within a modern sound that fits in extremely well with today’s punk and alternative scenes. The band really fleshed out their sound quite effectively and efficiently on their 2021 full-length Welcome To Your New Normal, an album that joined emo fundamentals with dynamic melodic rock, delivering a sound that is honest and accessible.
Since the release of their 2019 debut EP Recalibrate, the band has assembled a loyal fanbase strewn across the East Coast, becoming a hot commodity within and on the outskirts of New York City. When there’s a For Lack of a Term show, one thing is for sure; you know you’ll have a good time.
