Nicolas McCoppin’s Final Pop Puzzle Piece is His Latest Single “For Years”
Beloved queer pop artist, Nicolas McCoppin (read our recent interview here) releases his single “For Years” under AWAL – the final piece of the puzzle to his upcoming debut EP. “For Years” follows the same love story as his previous single, “Remember That Night,” and continues to explore the feeling of falling in love for the first time. Arguably McCoppin’s best release yet, “For Years” showcases his upbeat, summer, dance-pop style that has contributed to his considerable appeal as a major pop artist. Premiering on Queerty, the track was described as “channeling the work of Drake, Ariana Grande and a hint of early Miley Cyrus… With a pounding electro beat, the song seems ready for dancefloor revels.”
Assembling an all-star cast of collaborators, McCoppin co-wrote the single with Krysta Youngs and Julia Ross (both who have collaborated with BTS and Miley Cyrus) and worked with producer Kevin Cho (Ariana Grande), to bring the final version to life. “To me, ‘For Years’ is the beginning of the story. It starts the journey of what’s to come with the EP,” says McCoppin. His previous release “Remember That Night” garnered 30,000+ Spotify Streams and was featured on several playlists including Future Pop and Top 40’s “Top 100.” McCoppin’s early singles have amassed over 100,000+ streams collectively leading audiences to claim that McCoppin is the “next Charli XCX.”
New York native, Nicolas McCoppin is an LGBTQ rising pop artist with a signature dream-pop soundscape tinged with an ‘80s pop flair. Creating upbeat, feel-good, romantic, pop tracks that relatably appeal to the millennial generation, McCoppin has been described as “…a modern-day version of Wham mixed with a bit of Carly Rae Jepsen” (A1234). Since his official debut in 2019, McCoppin has performed at various venues in New York City including two sold-out shows at The Bowery Electric and Piano’s NYC, and various performances at the YouTube Space NYC. It was these performances and a distribution deal with AWAL (a division of Kobalt Music) that launched his online fanbase to garner over 18,000+ monthly listeners on Spotify and well over 130,000 Spotify streams just between his first three single releases.
Hailed by VEVO as “Bound To Be a Hit” with his second single “Ur Love” (2019), McCoppin also landed at #25 worldwide on the “Incoming Pop” playlist among the likes of Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Niall Horan, and Chloe MK. Hailed as “…a rising figure in the LGBTQ community as the next major pop artist to watch,” (Instinct Magazine) and a “smooth pop hottie” (Queerty), McCoppin has been featured on the likes of several high-profile publications including Bravo Magazine, the Sarah Scoop Show, HYPE Magazine, The Q Review, and many others.
