When I popped this disc into my player I found myself immediately drawn into the world of Korplikaani; and once there, I didn’t want to leave. The band’s newest release Ukon Wacka is an intriguing blend of Finish folk music and serious kick ass metal; the result of which is quite astonishing and unbelievably good.

Just like their six previous releases, the aspect that stands out the most to me on Ukon Wacka is the incredible variety. At times, the tunes are straight up catchy, balls out metal and at other times, I felt as though I’d been transported clear across the globe to Finland. The incorporation of various instrumentation, (accordions as well as strings) makes this disc an incredibly enjoyable listen. I can guarantee you won’t be able to sit still and listen to this record; it is designed to get the listener up and moving.

I also feel that Ukon Wacka has a bit more of a rock and roll feel to it, perhaps more so than their previous releases. While most of the tunes have the traditional Finnish Folk music running through them, they also have a bit more of an edge.

After listening to the record in it’s entirety I’m not sure I can single out just one tune as a favorite; they’re all fun and extremely contagious. I really enjoyed each one of them. This said, it’s the first single “Tequila” that I’ve not been able to get out of my head. It’s really a fantastic tune.

I would be remiss not to mention the production on this disc. As many of you already know, I’m a fan of big, clean productions and I feel that Ukon Wacka fits this bill perfectly. There are many different instruments and vocals running through each song, yet nothing ever gets lost in the mix; everything is crisp, clear and huge – the way a good production should be.

I can say with all honesty that Ukon Wacka is well worth the price of admission. It’s really a good, fun record and I would suggest you check this one out as soon as possible.  [ END ]
