The Skinny: If you like death metal then it’s a good bet that you’ll like Preternatural. Preternatural is an unsigned, five member metal band that hails from Latvia. The roots of the group date back to the late ‘90s when vocalist Serg and guitarist Volod met at school in Latvia and embarked on a mission to start a band. The two friends began taking guitar lessons and soon met bass player Den and drummer Gin who at the time were in another local area band that had been rehearsing in a nearby studio. The four of them decided to all get together in a new band and while each member loved heavy metal music, they soon found that they each enjoyed differing sub genres. As a result of their differing tastes, the band set out to incorporate and amalgamate their influences (death metal, black metal, keyboard influences) into one, cohesive sound.
After lots of rehearsing and local gigs, Preternatural released their debut album Statical in 2007. This was preceded by the addition of a full-time keyboard player Euge in 2006. Statical ended up garnering lots of positive attention for the group which resulted in various festival and opening band appearances around the Baltic states and Scandinavia, playing with bands such as Cradle of Filth, Atrocity, Soilwork and Cannibal Corpse.
Now in 2010, Preternatural has just released a brand new EP titled Cryophobia. The EP boasts five tracks including the title track for which the band shot its first ever music video, released this past October. The EP happens to be only a taste of things soon to come as the members of Preternatural are currently hard at work on the band’s next record. The album is currently in the writing stages awaiting recording which should commence in the very near future. The band hopes to have the record out by the end of 2010. If you’re looking for something hard, aggressive and downright loud then do yourself a favour and check out Preternatural. [ END ]
