Co-headliners Rancid and Dropkick Murphys hit the stage at Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY on August 6th, 2017, at the Ford Amphitheater for a sold-out crowd on a warm breezy evening for an outdoor concert.
The venue started to get packed as Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers had a short acoustic set, that warmed up the crowd the the following acts. Bouncing Souls hit the stage next, gearing up for a long night of good ‘ol punk rock.
The Celtic punkers started the show with “The Lonesome Boatman” off their newest album, 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory. Throughout the night they performed other new songs from the album such as “Blood,” “Paying My Way” and “Until the Next Time”. It wouldn’t be a Dropkick show if they didn’t end the night gathering as many fans on stage as they could fit, and playing “Until Next Time”.
Lastly, Rancid takes stage, playing a bunch of classic punk rock favorites, such as “Nihilism”, “Blood Clot”, and “Time Bomb”. Since the band has come out with an album this year, Trouble Maker, it was obvious you were going to get some fresh tunes interspersed through the set. Fans new and old rocked out to new hits “Telegraph”, “Avenue” and “Ghost of a Chance”.
But that’s not all. Any concert goer knows the first time a band exits the stage, the show is not necessarily over. The encore for this show was something any co-headlining tour should be going for. Rancid and Dropkick took the stage together to sing a few cover songs, including The Ramones‘ “Cretin Hop”, “Take ‘Em All” by Cocker Sparrer, “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash, and “If the Kids are United” by Sham 69.
