Alesia Lani – ‘love like lofi’ [EP] [Album Review]
Alesia Lani’s latest collection of songs plunges listeners headfirst into a magical envelope of laidback, sinuous R&B.

Soul/R&B songstress Alesia Lani teams up with FLOST8 on her new EP, love like lofi, a departure from her more sophisticated R&B productions. Describing the project as “soft and vulnerable,” Lani’s different approach allows her to brandish other aspects of her delicious voice and personality.
Along with performing at SXSW, Toronto’s Indie Week Fest, Austin City Limits, and Jai Thep, Lani has shared the stage with legends like George Clinton and Guns N’ Roses, as well as contemporary superstars such as Lizzo, Childish Gambino, Megan Thee Stallion, and Billie Eilish.
Lani’s shift to a chill ambiance is heard straightaway on the opening track, “pass that,” traveling on gentle, luminous tones topped by Lani’s light, velvety vocals, infusing the lyrics with alluring flavors. A hovering flute sample moves like smoke rings in the air, wafting on ebbing and rising timbres.
Highlighted by Lani’s warm, sultry vocals, “homebody” (read our single review) conveys listeners into a relaxed setting where lovers bask in affection on a cold, rainy day.
Other entry points on love like lofi include “water me,” mirroring the supple, rippling surfaces of water as Lani’s dreamy voice floats like drifting clouds above the melody. Intimate and stripped down, “wait 4 you” features airy layers of reverb, a thumping kick drum, snapping percussive accents, and Lani’s seductive vocals.
The closing track, “reel me in,” shimmers with echoes of reverb, forming a luscious rolling melody. Creamy and swaying with exquisitely silky tonal veneers, Lani’s voice imbues the lyrics with tantalizing hues, at once sumptuous and yearning.
