Passionate and haunting, as it progresses, “Hell” delivers the feeling of slowly descending into the black abyss of incipient irrationality.

New York City-based singer-songwriter D’Arcy unveils her new single, “Hell,” a track lifted from her forthcoming sophomore album.

“Hell” reveals the evolution of D’Arcy’s sound from the pop and alt-rock elements of her 2020 debut single, “Crush,” to retro-flavored, dark electro-pop with hints of house music.

D’Arcy explains, “‘Hell’ is the first track off my forthcoming album, and it marks a shift in the sound I have been creating over the past three years. This song infuses some of the ’80s drum sounds and synths I used on tour with She Wants Revenge.”

Since her arrival in 2020, D’Arcy has released a series of singles, two EPs, and her 2022 debut album, The Art of Flying, as well as performing her music throughout the U.S. and DJing at venues in New York City, including Good Room, Le Bain, and Public.

Composed of ringing bells, eerie swirling tones, and muted pulsations, the intro to “Hell” flows into a shadowy, electro-pop melody saturated with mysterious, percolating surfaces. At once dreamy and spectral, D’Arcy’s vocals immerse the lyrics in trance-like timbres, altering to oscillations on the outro.

Passionate and haunting, as it progresses, “Hell” delivers the feeling of slowly descending into the black abyss of incipient irrationality.
