Alberta’s progressive death metal band Valyria have released their new track called “The Crossing,” off of their new EP Into The Dying of Time. The band specializes in realistic escapism, a form of escapism that draws from events in the real world and is intended to help listeners cope with their own specific daily battles. You could say that the group is the aural equivalent of the works of George R.R. Martin, famous for his Game of Thrones series.
As the band explains, “Valyria is a ruined city in the world of Essos, the world in which George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ takes place. Valyria is a city of wonderment, magic and untold power. The aesthetic Martin creates within his novels is a similar atmosphere to that we as a band try to conjure with our music.”
