Goodnight, L.A.: The Rise and Fall of Classic Rock – The Untold Story from inside the Legendary Recording Studios tells the story of Keith Olsen, one of the most legendary and prolific Record Producers/Recording Engineers ever. You may not know his name, but I guarantee you have hummed along to many of the songs he had a hand in making. He has 39 Gold, 24 Platinum, and 14 Multi-Platinum album certifications.

Olsen was there at the beginning of classic rockers Fleetwood Mac, and has had a hand in recording artists as widely varied as Chicago and the late Tom Petty, to Ozzy Osbourne and Whitesnake. With a career such as his, you can imagine he has seen pretty much everything and can more than likely tell a few stories.

Author Kent Hartman does a good job relating some of the more important moments of Olsen’s professional life with stories about some of the most influential musicians and records. It is a good read with tons of information about the inner workings of some of the world’s most popular music. Overall, I think fans of classic rock and/or those in the industry would enjoy reading this biographical story of Keith Olsen’s life and legacy.
