Boyfrndz – “Breeder” [Album Review]

Boyfrndz’s newest creation, Breeder, became available for your listening pleasure (or pain) on April 1st, 2014. While I hadn’t heard their previous tunes, overall Breeder is a pretty solid album. The first track, appropriately titled “Intro” bleeds into the second, “Each Others,” and sets the tone for the rest of the disc. The recording is definitely a set of songs that meld together which result in Breeder boasting a really good flow, suiting of Boyfrndz’s experimental style.

The band’s creativity did not stop at composing the songs. The musicians, Scott Marin, Aaron Perez, Joseph Raines and Jesse Moore, also produced this album. Their individual influences shine through and as a group, they have managed to create something with a unique identity. If you were to listen to any song separately, after listening to Breeder, you would instantly know it’s from that album in specific. While I enjoyed this disc, it may not be for everyone. Definitely recommended for fans of Mars Volta, Hella and Tera Melos.
