The Young Veins: “Bringing Back the ’60s”
In 2009, Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left the very successful pop-outfit Panic! At The Disco due to musical differences. The duo longed to leave the pop scene to fulfill their desire of playing 1960’s Beatles-esque tunes with a more mature sound. They formed The Young Veins, and recorded their 2010 debut Take A Vacation in a matter of months.
The Skinny: In 2009, Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left the very successful pop-outfit Panic! At The Disco due to musical differences. The duo longed to leave the pop scene to fulfill their desire of playing 1960’s Beatles-esque tunes with a more mature sound. They formed The Young Veins, and recorded their 2010 debut Take A Vacation in a matter of months.
If you listen to Take a Vacation, it is evident that it is the complete opposite of the pop punk on Panic’s platinum release A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. The album consists of songs that your dad will love because it reminds him of his childhood. Each song is short, sweet and simple. This retro-leaning rock ensemble consists of Ryan Ross (vocals, guitar), Jon Walker (guitar), Andy Soukal (bass), Nick Murray (drums) and Nick White (keyboards).
In light of their retro-theme, the video for their first single “Change” is filmed in black and white. The video revolves around a performance that is reminiscent of the performances that were televised during 1960’s after-school variety shows such as American Bandstand. In addition, Ross traded in the emo side-swept two-toned haircut for a longer, unkept 60’s styled shag. The Young Veins know their roots, and its influence makes the songs purely enjoyable as it is bringing back the 1960’s era one song at a time. [ END ]
