JD Pinkus Drops “I Would Like To Pet It” off Upcoming ‘Grow a Pair’ LP
JD Pinkus shares “I Would Like To Pet It,” a psychedelic bluegrass tune that tells the story of one who can’t keep their hands to themselves.

Last month, JD Pinkus announced his upcoming LP, Grow a Pair, due June 7th via Shimmy-Disc. Today, he shares the record’s second single, “I Would Like To Pet It,” a psychedelic bluegrass tune that tells the story of someone who doesn’t know how to keep their hands to themselves. Famed illustrator and video maker Richard Mather (Rick and Morty) brings the story to life in the accompanying music video.
Known and acclaimed for his work as a member of Butthole Surfers and The Melvins, JD Pinkus’ latest LP has been in the making for a long time coming. The follow-up to his 2021 LP, Fungus Shui, the new record sees Pinkus expand his psychedelic universe into a series of 12 potent tracks, combining punk, psych rock, and banjo-based folk.
Speaking on the record, Pinkus said, “Grow A Pear has been in the works for 5 years. What started as my contributions for the ‘new’ Butthole Surfers album that was not to be‚ turned into a solo album I recorded with contributions from some of my favorite flavor players to create an album that most represents where I came from and bridges to where I’m at right now. My wishes for the future, is that everyone in the world will finally ‘Grow A Pear’.”
He continued, “A ‘Pear’ of albums on one vinyl‚ a combo of heavy psychedelia, drum and bass grooves, bouncy boogie, catchy tunes, and sprinkles of tastee horns, keys and strings thrown in‚ kinda like a thumb over the genre-hose nozzle, something for everyone and nothing for someone‚ guaranteed!”
