The Skinny: The Grammy nominated Metalcore masters Norma Jean from Douglasville, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta), have been dishing out some of the loudest, heaviest music in the genre since their formation in 1997. As with many bands, Norma Jean has seen their share of line-up changes; the band’s only original members are the two guitarists, Chris Day and Scottie Henry. They have headlined the Vans Warped Tour, toured with the Ozzfest and in 2006 even received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Recording Package for their second record, O God, the Aftermath.

Their latest CD The Anti-Mother has been receiving critical acclaim all around; it even debuted at number 29 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. The band brings their brand of heaviness right from the beginning of the CD and they set the bar so high that I didn’t think they would be able follow through all the way till the end. Man was I wrong. I highly recommend this amazing disc; it has honestly been in constant rotation in my player for the last few months.

Norma Jean have a sound all to their own, it is a unique blending of mostly slower, down tuned, at times dissonant guitar work combined with powerful and passionate screaming vocals. The intensity of their sound is unbelievable and is what I feel sets them apart from the rest of the bands in this genre.

The band has recently signed with Razor and Tie Records after a long stint with Solid State Recordings and they are currently in the studio working on the follow up to the The Anti-Mother which they hope to have in store during the summer of 2010.
