Silverstein is a five-piece powerhouse that emerged from the hardcore/emo rock scene in 2000. Since forming in Burlington, Ontario they’ve experienced an overwhelming rise to rock stardom. They rose from the hardcore scene in their hometown and after they got together they were eager to record. With Neil Boshart and Josh Bradford on guitars, Bill Hamilton playing bass, Paul Koehler mastering drums and Shane Told behind the mic, they became Silverstein.

Practicing paid off when the band got their first big break, when a former Grade member began talking the band up to his bigwig music buddy at Victory Records. They were soon signed with Victory. They were quickly becoming widely known as one the most talked about bands in the hardcore/emo rock scene.

A major fan base came with the release of When Broken is Easily Fixed which sold over 200,000 copies worldwide, and impressed all the right people, which lead to a spot in the prestigious Alternative Press 100 Bands You Need To Know, in the spring of 2005. Their status was quickly rising as their schedule filled with non-stop touring with bands like Hawthorne Heights and Fall Out Boy.

Years on the road as a touring band was the inspiration for their latest album entitled Discovering The Waterfront. On the latest disc, the band strived to create deep songs that tell stories of self-determination, the challenges of coping with change, and addictions, in the tracks “Your Sword Versus My Dagger” and “My Heroine.” The tales are delivered flawlessly through gut wrenching screams and dual metallic guitars; inducing pain and passion. When they found time to record they turned to producer Cameron Webb, who has previously recorded bands such as Motorhead, Social Distortion, and Ben Fold Five. The album was recorded in part at the world famous Capitol Studios in Hollywood.

While recording, the band paid special attention to the packaging, and worked with artist Martin Wittfooth to create the details on the cover that showcase the album’s emotion. The cover is a creative painting of a man sitting down with his knees up covering his head; he’s bent over, resting his head on his arm as he reaches into dark water. There are streams of light in the background, suggesting a city.

With the record packaged and ready to go, the next step was creating a video for their first single, “Smile in Your Sleep,” a dark song of jealousy, deception and murder. Together with their producer they came up with the idea for the video from the board game Clue. With the record and video wrapped up they were on the road, touring the summer of 2005, playing Warped Tour and then touring the United States. Silverstein continues to tour, and was in Canada in November 2006. They’ll be back conquering new emotions in a new album to be released next Summer!
