10 Second Drop

Self-Titled (2005)

10 Second Drop are calling themselves a hard rock band and there’s nothing like mixing country with rock n’ roll. Unfortunately for me, sarcasm can not be read. 10 Second Drop is self-titled and was released on January 24th, 2006, and to quote one of their songs; “Tell me when will it stop?” If I wanted to listen to Nickelback, I’d turn on the radio. Though heavier than Nickelback, 10 Second Drop has nothing to set them apart from every other band trying to make it today. I’ve never heard such a blatant rip off of a band like this.

Sevendust came first. I loved Sevendust when they first hit the air waves and were doing this particular music style. To hear it repeated years later… I thought music was about individuality? Retro should only ever be applied to clothing; NOT music! The band formed in early 2000 and resides in Tampa, Florida and consist of Artie Edmonds -vocals/guitar, Justin Malinchak-guitar/vocals, Craig C Heneveld-drums, and Ryan Gerardi-bass/vocals. One would think that with so many vocalists in the band that it could not be anything but good. However, this is not the case and maybe, they should think about looking for a few more.

I laughed when I went to their myspace site and saw under the section, sounds like: 10 Second Drop. The section is asking who does this particular band sound like and their response is; themselves. This is so not the case. They are not even creative, lyrically! Don’t get me wrong, the music isn’t bad and if they had to be rated on a scale of 1 to 10 musically and musically only, I’d say nearing 8 and a half, possibly even a 9. Vocally I’ve never wanted to pop the CD out sooner! In that, I’d have to rate the band as a whole at maybe a 7 and that’s being kind. The CD has a running time of 37 minutes and 58 seconds; and yes! I tortured myself and listened to the entire album.

Their record label is Rock Ridge Music and if you feel the need to check them out or send them comments… you can go to rockridgemusic.com. You can conveniently find their lovely CD in stores near you including, but not exclusively in Targets, Best Buy’s, and Tower Records. If however, you find yourself curious and wish to know more about this band, you may check them out by going to their site 10seconddrop.com.

I do not understand how bands like this get the support that they do, are signed as often as they are, and can only say that it is us, the public who allow this and seem to be content with the day to day dribble that rotates on the radio stations. When everything is said and done, I personally would not purchase this CD. In the end though, I leave it to you, the listener to decide; is this the next band you want to be hearing on your local radio station?  [ END ]
