Scars of life have had an opportunity to share the stage with bands such as 40 Below Summer, Ill Nino, Poison the Well, Endo, and Darwin’s Waiting Room. So, it should not come as much of a surprise that they seem to imitate those around them. In their début album, What We Reflect; Scars of Life have a sound not unlike Papa Roach and though heavier than Papa Roach, they seem to be a combination style of Breaking Benjamin and Korn.

They formed in late 2000 and the band consist of Jason Rodman – Drums, Joe Raio – Guitars, Kyle Shapiro – Vocals, Chris Mullen – Bass, and Anthony Parrinello – Guitars. Kyle Shapiro’s voice is nothing neither new nor unique and blends in with everything that is currently being played on the radio, yet for some reason I can’t stop listening to it. There seems to be a quality, be it in his voice or even the lyrics that seem to be hypnotic and enticing to the ears and to the mind. Don’t get your hopes up however, that vocals will be the same if another CD is released because Kyle Shapiro is no longer with the band. An official announcement was posted on both, their myspace site and on their actual band site.

The music is smooth and satisfying to what the young angry youth of today is looking for and the general public seem to agree. Scars of Life hail from Pompano Beach, Florida and established themselves in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as a hard rock/metal act. They are currently on the Rock Ridge Music label and they are managed by Douglas K. Wimmer and Concept Artist Management. Since their release, the band has gone through some changes and their first bassist, Al Torres has gone on to pursue other facets of music and in doing so, has formed Eversinceve. The most recent news was that of their singer, Kyle Shapiro’s leaving. However, the rest of the band will not give up so easily and do not plan on disappearing from the music scene anytime soon.

Since they want to continue, the band is currently holding auditions for other vocalists, all information pertaining to this announcement can be found on their website. Their CD has a running time of 45 minutes and 40 seconds, and if I had to rank them on a scale of one to ten, I’d have to say they are at about a 7.5; so if you don’t mind owning the same sounds as the every day radio has to play, I completely recommend running to your nearest CD store; be it Best Buy, Sam Goody, Tower Records, or what have you and picking up a copy for yourself. In the end I leave it for you to decide….
