After five long years, The Flower Kings are back with new album Banks of Eden, to be released June 19th (US, June 18th Europe) via InsideOut Music. The Flower Kings emerged as one of the most popular bands of the early ’90s Prog movement and became one of the scene’s leading icons together with Porcupine Tree, Spocks Beard and Dream Theater. In light of the album’s impending release date, The Flower Kings are now debuting a medley of the 25-minute opening track “Numbers.”

Blotted Science is an instrumental, technical metal super group of sorts comprised of guitarist Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Spastic Ink), bassist Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse) and drummer Hannes Grossmann (Obscura, ex-Necrophagist). I recently had a chance to speak with Ron Jarzombek about the band’s newest EP, The Animation Of Entomology, a disc that is literally scored and written to bug movies. Hard to believe at first, but if you sync up the songs on this disc to various bug movies found on the internet the result is absolutely amazing. The EP stands on its own as well though thanks to the incredible talent of all three members. Here’s what Jarzombek had to say about this truly unique project.

Google never ceases to amaze me, it will return fifteen very different results for one word. Aside from being a very good progressive metal band, Votum, is a medication for high blood pressure that isn’t suitable for distribution in the United States. More appropriately, however, it is also a form of prayer in which an offering is made to the gods in exchange for divine favour. e.g. I swear to God I will quit (insert vice) if this article ever gets to the point.
