Confessions Of A Traitor – “Illuminate EP” [Album Review]
After a quiet few months, Essex metalcore mob Confessions Of A Traitor are back to show the UK metal scene exactly what they’ve been missing.Read our review of their new EP, Illuminate, here…
It’s been a familar story that we’ve heard so many times before. Essex-based metalcore troop Confessions Of A Traitor burst onto the scene a few years ago and were heralded by the media as a shining beacon for the UK metal scene. Sadly, after so much promise, the wheels seemingly fell off this well oiled metalcore juggernaut and, for months, they disappeared off the radar. Well, it’s now 2016 and the Essex shredders are back with a new EP and, judging by the five tracks on offer, are ready to pick up where they left off.
And, while it might be that Confessions don’t reinvent the wheel with their raging metal, they’re certainly very fucking good at what they do as this EP shows. White hot blasts of crunching metalcore is what you get on Illuminate and, like all top quality metalcore bands, Confessions Of A Traitor get the blend of clean sections, blood-spilling breakdowns and thundering guitars just right. This is none more evident than on the closing track “Illuminating The Night” where the band get the ingredients bang on with the end result being a track of epic proportions.
Those who saw Confessions Of A Traitor when they first appeared on the scene will have seen how devastating this band were live and judging by tracks like “Through Struggle, Hope Will Anchor Our Souls”, the band have lost none of that ability to write songs that will simply destroy live. That being the case, here’s hoping that, now they’re back, they’re ready to show the scene exactly what we’ve been missing.
