Rockpile – “Live At Montreux 1980”
Rockpile is a supergroup of sorts which, comprised of Nick Lowe (vocals, bass), Dave Edmunds (vocals, guitar), Billy Bremner (vocals, guitar) and Terry Williams (drums), came to prominence in the late 70’s and early ’80s. Due to individual members’ contractual agreements however, they only released one studio album (Seconds of Pleasure) under the moniker Rockpile, Live At Montreux 1980 being the only existing live release of the group as a whole.

As you peruse the song titles you might recognize some of them from other places. That’s because many were recorded by nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds with their own individual bands while some were recorded by other artists (“Queen Of Hearts” was later recorded by Juice Newton).
The recording and production is surprisingly good considering it’s more than 3 decades old. Sure there are a few spots where the vocals are hard to understand for a brief moment or two, but the overall integrity of this performance is still intact. Bottom line, this is a glimpse into the past and a spotlight shone onto some of the most influential players of the ’70s.
