Jack O’Neill – “Weight of the World” [Song Review]
Simultaneously appealing and addictive, Jack O’Neill’s “Weight of the World” projects the electrifying energy of full-blown pop-rock.
New York City-based singer-songwriter and actor Jack O’Neill recently released his new single, “Weight of the World,” the first track from his upcoming album, North Star, his first solo album since 2003’s Halfway Round the World.
“Weight of the World” reflects the mutability of life and its impact on our consciousness, a topic that fits inside the theme of the forthcoming North Star, which wrestles with the idea of how, as we get further away from where we come from, we in some way seem to get nearer to our origin point.
Co-founder of the Texas band Jackopierce, O’Neill’s sound amalgamates flavors of Americana, folk, rock, and pop. He has recorded and shared the stage with T-Bone Burnett, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrisette, Butch Walker, and Jack Ingram, and has performed live on Conan O’Brien and with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
“Weight of the World” rolls out on layers of guitars brimming with shimmering colors riding a pushing, mid-tempo rhythm. O’Neill’s vocals conjure up whiffs of Tom Petty, imbuing the lyrics with passionate emotions as plush vocal harmonies silhouette his voice in a radiant aura.
Simultaneously appealing and addictive, “Weight of the World” projects the electrifying energy of full-blown pop-rock.
