Black Daggers Hit the Gas with Their “Best I’ve Got” Music Video Premiere
Certain rock songs stand out as good “driving songs,” and we can add Black Daggers’ “Best I’ve Got” to the top of that category. Today, the band unveils their high-octane new single, which comes along with a revved-up visualizer video. The song is a classic headbanger, with powerhouse riffs and intensity for days. It’s also a perfect way to start off an album, which it does on the band’s latest LP, Phantasmagoria. Released this past Halloween via Papercuts on Purpose, the record is defined by Black Daggers’ dual guitar attack.
Discussing the “Best I’ve Got” video, lead singer and guitarist Valentine Vandal states:
“This song is about being on the edge and feeling like you’ve given everything you have. I wanted to try and capture the feeling of a car chase between our main character and the devil. I shot some of the footage using a real 1967 Ford Mustang GT and 2019 Dodge Demon. The remaining footage was captured using a combination of VR and AI. It was all edited by myself.”
Vandal and his bandmates in Black Daggers hail from the heart of Red Deer, Alberta. There is an urgency to their music that will remind you of more traditional 90s and 2000s hard rock acts. It’s a combination of raw energy and a focus on live performance that really makes this band a force to be reckoned with. They have the perfect sound that shines in a live setting, reminiscent of Between the Buried and Me, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, and more.
Phantasmagoria is a concept record. The main character makes a deal with the devil, which, as expected, quickly goes awry. His life begins to unravel, which leads to depression and addiction. In writing the album, Vandal wanted to hone in on the effects of drugs on a person’s psyche. Their life ends up with a cloud of paranoia and self-destruction, which makes it a relatable record for anyone who has dealt with mental health issues or lived with addictions.
But even if you haven’t dealt with those things, it still resonates with anyone who has coped with inner demons. In addition to “Best I’ve Got,” there will be more visual accompaniments for the record. They are all self-produced by Vandal, with assistance from the power of artificial intelligence. As Vandal continues to illustrate, Phantasmagoria is so much more than just a set of songs.
