Indie-Rock Band Pretoria Premieres Their New Single “Seven”
Indie-rock band Pretoria debuts their new single “Seven” and teases an upcoming tour in support of their recent album.
Grand Rapids-based indie-rock-pop sensation Pretoria is captivating audiences with their new single “Seven” – a sonic journey that pushes the boundaries of indie music, showcasing Pretoria’s unique blend of soulful melodies and poignant lyricism.
“Seven” is more than just a song; it’s a testament to Pretoria’s evolution as a formidable force in the indie music scene. With a repertoire that skillfully fuses elements of alternative, indie-pop, and soul, the band continues to carve a niche for themselves in the industry with a distinctive sound characterized by ethereal vocals and intricate instrumentals. “Seven” bolsters that reputation with its upbeat and sunny instrumental backdrop, a hallmark of Pretoria’s unique musical identity. The trio of talented guitarists—Josh Bilisko, Matt Burdick, and Matt Pavlock—contribute to the song’s dynamic atmosphere, weaving hooky and calculated guitar lines throughout, culminating in an anthemic ending.
Lead vocalist Rob Gullett explores the lyrics of Ben DeWitt as he writes about the end of a situationship with the protagonist grappling with the challenge of mustering the courage to break things off. Inspired by real-life events, the lyrics depict feelings of cluelessness, anxiety, and over-analysis, all while harbouring a longing to be with the other person. Ben DeWitt comments:
“‘Seven’ might be our best release yet. It’s a song that captures the essence of our experiences and emotions, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it.”
Known for their ability to blend melancholic lyricism with pleasant indie-rock melodies seamlessly, Pretoria has crafted a track that is both introspective and uplifting, with a contrast between the lyrics’ emotional depth and the vibrant instrumentals that showcases the band’s artistic prowess. In addition to the song’s release, the band has also hinted at an upcoming tour, promising fans an immersive live experience that complements the energy of their music.
