The Parachute Brigade Grapple with Being Artistic on New Single “One Twenty Two”

Impatience, edginess, and discomfort are such core themes of the times we live in, so it’s not surprising to see them influence the songwriting of bands like The Parachute Brigade. The Charleston, West Virginia sextet today revealed their brand new single, “One Twenty Two,” the first in a new batch of singles the band plans to release in the coming months.

The song is a nicely paced, traditional-sounding American indie folk track. It features the infectious melodies and exquisite vocal harmonies that you’ve come to expect from the band. “One Twenty Two” is very much a song that would appeal to fans of both modern indie rock and country folk.

Discussing the song and its insecure nature, The Parachute Brigade lead singer Eric Robbins states:

“I can’t tell you exactly what this song is about because that’s up to the listener to make their own connection with. I can say that ‘One Twenty Two’ came from a place of restlessness. Choosing to be an artist can be an unsettling thing to do in this day and age. I think this song lends itself to the heartache that comes with that decision and acknowledging the bright spots that make it all worth it. ‘Maybe we can go there one last time…’”

In terms of the recording of “One Twenty Two,” Robbins adds:

“In lieu of going to a larger studio in Nashville, we recorded with our former bandmate, now audio engineer and producer, Robbie Lanham of Monarch Entertainment. This was our first time recording at home and the experience gave us a lot more time to be creative in the studio.”

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the founding of The Parachute Brigade. Between then and now, they have become a fine songwriting machine. Part of their success as songwriters can be attributed to the members’ wide variety of musical influences. With those influences and their expertise, they are able to make their songs both unique and eclectic. It’s a bit of a throwback to when rock n’ roll was more centred around musical harmonies. Their general approach may remind you of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Fleetwood Mac, or The Beach Boys.

Lanham has helped usher in a new era for The Parachute Brigade. As a former bandmate, he knew all the right buttons to push to bring out the best in the group. Lanham is very much a large reason for how they sound now. It’s like a wall of lush harmonies, ethereal guitars, and delightful melodies that make you feel good.
