Lynx is an instrumental math-rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, consisting of guitarists Mike Hutchins and Dave Konopka (former member and co-founder of Battles), bassist Paul Joyce, and drummer Dale Connolly. Originally released in 2000 exclusively on CD, their sole album, Lynx, is being reissued and available for the first time in both vinyl and digital formats. This visionary record, a precursor to the math music of the new millennium, skillfully blends stripped-down, repetitive guitars with angular, minimalist drum patterns.

This deluxe edition is augmented by a second vinyl entitled Human Speech, an EP featuring three unreleased tracks recorded in 2021 but composed more than 20 years ago. The entire collection will be released by Computer Students™ in their Expanded Reissues series on May 5, 2023 – pre-order at the following link: https://cmptrstdnts.com/lynx/. It includes a massive double-sided poster and is housed in a sleek, tactile, aluminum packaging. Although both records are physically packaged together, Lynx and Human Speech will be released separately on all digital platforms.

Written over 20 years ago and kept secret for all those years, “Human Speech” was finally recorded in the summer of 2021 by Seth Manchester at Machine with Magnets in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The track, which opens the EP of the same name, immediately picks up on the dialogue between the band and their audience: It gradually transforms from its initial impact into a distinct compositional structure that can only belong to Lynx.
