Illiterate Light Premiere Their Earnest Music Video for New Single “Feb 1st”
Teasing their upcoming album ‘Sunburned,’ due January 27th via Thirty Tigers, Illiterate Light debut their newest single/music video, “Feb 1st.”
The date of February 1st probably doesn’t mean anything to you, and why would it? Its only significance is that it’s just about the unofficial midway point day of the Winter when the days are feeling longer, and your positivity lower.
Well, at least this date was good for something, inspiring Illiterate Light to compose their latest single, “Feb 1st.” Released today with its accompanying music video, the song has a classic indie rock tone to it but with a hard rock edge, complete with a distorted guitar riff fest delivered by singer and guitarist Jeff Gorman. As a follow-up to the recently released singles “Heaven Bends” and “Light Me Up,” “Feb 1st” is the first from the duo’s new album Sunburned, which will be released on January 27th through Thirty Tigers.
Discussing how the song came to fruition, Gorman states:
“This song was written on February 1st of 2021. A year into the solitude of the pandemic. Mid winter blues in a small Shenandoah town. It’s a song about wanting to travel – wanting to meet new people – wanting to be a stranger somewhere.”
Not that it wasn’t already of utmost importance, but Gorman and drummer Jake Cochran really focused on bringing their A-game to the writing and recording of this album. Their 2019 self-titled debut was very much centred around writing songs that would translate well to a live setting. Although those songs turned out satisfactorily, Gorman and Cochran wanted to free themselves of any songwriting restraints or prerequisites, which allowed for more adventurousness and risk-taking. The studio became a place of freedom and experimentation with extra motivation for Gorman coming from the recent death of his father, which he turned into an opportunity to throw fear to the side and embrace his creative impulses.
It’s worked, as Gorman is ready and able to take Illiterate Light to a whole new place of maturity and skill.
