When it comes to his songwriting, there are no artificial limits or boundaries for Jehry Robinson. We love to categorize music and musicians, but what do you do when you come across one who defies all categorization? Enter Jehry Robinson, an exceptionally talented young artist here with his brand new music video for the acoustic version of “Closer To The Sun.” The song can be found on his Strange Music-released album, 20/Twenty, featuring, you guessed it, 20 glorious new tracks, mixing pop, melodic rap, reggae flavour, and a hint of rock n’ roll.

With the album, Robinson’s attempt was to create a dynamic and diverse new release that not only shows you the breadth of his musical talents but also offers you a more intimate look into his mind and his soul. Throughout 20/Twenty, there are happy tracks, more depressed sounding cuts, and at times, a lot of reggae vibe and rock n’ roll spirit. “Closer To The Sun” definitely leans on the reggae side of things, and features a lot of summer energy that will have you longing for sunnier and warmer days.

Explaining his reasoning behind doing an acoustic version of “Closer To The Sun,” Robinson said, “I wanted to strip this track down and give a more raw experience. Sometimes the lyrics can get clouded by instrumentation so I enjoy acoustic because I have another opportunity to showcase the lyrics.”

Growing up in Long Island, New York, Robinson first set sail on his musical journey when his mother surprised him with a karaoke machine for Christmas. He soon began recording demos privately with one, in particular, catching on with his classmates at high school which convinced him that he needed to pursue music as a career. Robinson soon developed a friendship with the GRAMMY® award winner Macklemore who helped him in getting situated within the music industry.

Taking his inspiration from Bob Marley, Eminem, Mos Def, Black Thought, Macklemore, and Tech N9ne, Robinson has developed a style all of his own. Since signing to Strange Music last year, Robinson has been remarkably productive, releasing three EPs and collaborating with label mates Tech N9ne, Joey Cool, Krizz Kaliko, JL, and King Iso. Take those categorizations, throw them in the garbage, and get to know Jehry Robinson a little better.
