Women of Rock: SKINNY LISTER’s Vocalist LORNA THOMAS Discusses Her Favourite Female Punk Rockers
London punk-folk band, Skinny Lister, are heading out to the States in a couple of weeks to join Bouncing Souls on tour. Following the completion of their recent UK tour, we spoke to vocalist Lorna Thomas about her favourite female punk rockers.
Having just wrapped up their UK and European tour, London folk-punk band Skinny Lister have confirmed they will be heading out to the States in a couple of weeks for the 30th Anniversary tour of The Bouncing Souls, alongside The Bronx and Sharp Shock. Ahead of the dates, we sat down with vocalist Lorna Thomas to discuss her favourite female punk rockers.
Check out Skinny Lister’s new video for the brilliant “My Life, My Architecture” before you read on:
1. Debbie Harry
– Total goddess. I love her voice, I love her attitude & I love her style. I guess when you’re that gorgeous you can get away with just about anything. She rocks!
Essential Listening: Parallel Lines
2. Beth Ditto
– Again, total sassy frontwoman. Her voice is killer. Her attitude is killer and wow, what a show woman. Pro body image, feminist and totally cool chick. I love women that aren’t too precious about the image they give off – which in turn means they give off the best image possible.
Essential Listening: Standing in the way of Control
3. Aimee Alan
– Frontwoman for The Interrupters. They are absolutely smashing it at the moment and it’s hard not to fall in love with her energy, her moves and her raspy tones.
Essential Listening: Fight The Good Fight
4. Laura Jane Grace
– Activist, author & musician, label mate & total legend! She’s the frontwoman of the punk rock band Against Me! but also has a solo project, Laura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers. She has great energy & an openness about her experiences as a transgender person. A total inspiration!
Essential Listening: New Wave
5. Courtney Barnett
– Not strictly punk but definitely carries a punk attitude. I love her lyrics and her laid back delivery. Her album was a sound track in the band van when we were out in the States after hearing her on NPR’s All Songs Considered.
Essential Listening: Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit
