Cancer Bats – “The Spark That Moves” [Album Review]
Surprise world! Cancer Bats dropped a new album. The Spark That Moves is an eleven-song metallic hardcore monster that is guaranteed to get all up in your business.

Surprise world!!! Here’s the new Cancer Bats album.
In an era of nothing being secret (or sacred) Liam Cormier, Scott Middleton, Mike Peters and Jaye Schwarzer today unleash their sixth shredder of an album on their own Bat Skull Records, in partnership with New Damage Records.
The Spark That Moves is an eleven-song metallic hardcore monster that is guaranteed to get all up in your business. The album opens with “Gatekeeper,” an absolute ripper of a track that boasts the coolest Scott Middleton riffs these ears have heard since “Hail Destroyer” blew my mind a decade ago. It’s incredible to see that Cancer Bats are one of the few bands on the planet that can sound younger with every passing release. Legacy fans will be thrilled with the songs on The Spark That Moves. Fans looking for new things from the Bats will certainly enjoy moments like the guitar solo in “Bed Of Nails” and the harmonizing on “Headwound,” two of many instances on this recording showcasing moments of true progression in style and finesse.
Tonight and tomorrow, the Cancer Bats perform two 10th Anniversary Hail Destroyer shows at Lee’s Palace in Toronto. They have just doubled-down on that celebratory vibe by springing a new album on this first day of these shows, sweetening the pot. Expect to hear a few new tracks at these sold-out shows accompanying the entirety of Hail Destroyer performed live each evening.
One of the new, meatier tracks is “Rattlesnake,” also the shortest song on The Spark That Moves, and a song PureGrainAudio was most humbled to premiere on our site mere hours ago. Enjoy that track right here if you missed it:
Check out the venomous new “Rattlesnake” music video.
The Spark That Moves will be available in all formats and on all music sites for purchase and streaming by the time you are reading this. Physical product can be ordered RIGHT HERE.
