Attila (w/ The Word Alive) @ Electric Ballroom (London, UK) on April 7, 2017 [Photos & Show Review]
When Attila put on a night they make sure it’s more of an event than just a mere rock show as our reviewer found out when she joined the band in London. Check out photos and a review here…
There was the buzz of an early Spring day about the venue for Attila’s “Chaos Tour” with lots of people milling about, beers in hand. Attila had been heavily promoting this tour for a few weeks and it was finally time to see what they could deliver. The Word Alive was an excellent choice as support act, Tyler Smith straddled the line of owning their support slot whilst still being humble and prepping the crowd for Attila. With two songs left in their set, Tyler commanded everyone to get down to the floor, and to jump up in synchronicity, which exposed the bright lights and revealing there were still lots of people yet to fill the room.
The venue flooded with fans just before Attila’s set, and along the front row were pockets of girls desperate to get the attention of their idols. Feeling more highly anticipated than just a gig, Attila made sure this was an event – their backdrop a riot of colour occasionally lit by the floodlights, while frontman Chris Fronzak and guitarist Chris Linck led the onslaught from the risers at the front of the stage. Attila opened with “Middle Fingers Up” and “Hellraiser”, both from their most successful 2013 album, About That Life. “Bulletproof”, “Ignite” and “Moshpit” were featured from Chaos, creating huge circle pits and mosh pits which may have been what prompted Fronzak to declare London as the band’s favourite city to perform in, anywhere in the world.
Most unusually, and a first for the band, they picked 3 people from the crowd to have a ‘scream-off’, judging each competitor based on crowd noise. The lucky winner performed “Payback” with the band, he truly seized the moment and looked very at home on the stage before Attila took back their stage and ended this riotous night with a two-song encore of “Public Apology” and “Proving Grounds”.
