War Nurse – “Hounds” [Song Review]
Sounding more like a B-side than a single, the production and approach on the track by War Nurse is still a welcome approach to bygone eras of industrial meeting goth meeting rock.
If you like synthy doom perpetuated by introspective industrialists with a strong influence on energetic pace, well then War Nurse’s new song “Hounds” will scratch all of that itch.
In terms of production, it sounds like the act were trying to focus on replicating the ’80’s treble-happy vibe, which is both admirable and somewhat effective in this particular track. Though what becomes most noticeable is the way the guitar and synth build together and create an immediate urgency that doesn’t let up. Of course, once the reverbed-out vocals come in to join the cacophony, the result is a song that should theoretically work.
But perhaps it’s the lack of a strong chorus that makes this sound like a B-side rather than a single. It seems a shame for a band that clearly know what they’re about production-wise. It’s a tantalizing taste that makes one wish for more.
