Judas Priest – “Battle Cry” [DVD Review]
The Battle Cry DVD is a must-have for any fan of Judas Priest or metal in general.
It is hard to believe that after 40 years Judas Priest, the Gods of Metal who remain in special a category alongside Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, are not only still performing, but also cranking out some of the best music of their career. This DVD, Battle Cry, captures the band live at Wacken 2015, destroying the massive crowd with a performance they are not soon to forget.
After all of these years Rob Halford is still near the top of his game and able to reach those ear-piercing notes that define any Priest show or song. Relative newcomer Richie Faulkner holds his own against original guitarist Glenn Tipton and the way they play off each other, bouncing leads back and forth, is just fantastic. The set list contains many classic Priest hits including “Metal Gods,” “Electric Eye,” “Victim of Changes” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” as well as newer tracks off their latest release, Redeemer Of Souls.
From a technical standpoint this disc looks terrific, with plenty of close-ups and lots off widescreen shots capturing the crowd. The sound is incredible, it’s perfectly mixed and begs to be cranked to max volume. At the end of the day, with a great mix of tunes spanning a good portion of their career, this is a must-have for any fan of Judas Priest or metal in general. These guys are masters at what they do and it was a pleasure viewing the show.
