Album Review

Architects (UK) – “Daybreaker”

For those of you hoping this new Architect album will bring back the Architects you loved from Nightmares and The Hear and The Now, you will be sorely disappointed. The band has pretty much abandoned all the things that made those albums what they were and have joined the masses with this un-remarkable, un-memorable, and very generic sounding album.

Sure they’ve added some symphonic ambiance to fill in some songs and make the sound fuller, but it just makes everything more muddled. Everything in this album is different from what you have grown to love about Architects: the vocals are very non-characteristic of Sam Carter and sound much weaker than past efforts, and the music itself is nowhere near as technical and they’ve resorted to much more generic-sounding chugging and guitar riffs.

For a band that has released such great material to date, this album is a big letdown. I’m sure it will appeal to the band’s diehard fanboys, but those hoping to hear Architects progress and continue to write fantastic material will be utterly upset.
