Deadlock – “Bizarro World”

Two growing metal trends over the past few years include both a surge in melodic death metal and bands fronted by female vocalists. So what if we blended these two fads together; what do you think we’d get? In this case, German group Deadlock! The band has been creating music since 1997 and is stronger than ever with this, their fifth full-length album, Bizarro World.

As aforementioned, Deadlock are a melodic death metal band who boast heavy instrumentals and growled vocals thanks to lead vocal slugger Johannes Prem. When the time calls for it however, the group can mellow out their instruments and allow for lead woman Sabine Scherer to soar. Her vocal lines are sweet and poppy and shift away from the power of the band’s metal side. Thanks in large to this vocal dichotomy, in a song Deadlock can swiftly switch from a behemoth of sound to a smooth paean. Bizarro World is amazing, and yet again displayed why Deadlock are, in my opinion, one of the greatest metal bands the world has ever seen.
