Interview with Krisiun vocalist and bassist Alex Camargo
Since their formation in 1990 the Brazilian death metal band Krisiun has been dishing out a punishing lethal dose of fury and aggression. That longstanding tradition is carried on in their newest release, The Great Execution which contains all of the elements that have garnered them so many accolades over the years; monster guitar riffs and commanding vocals delivered at an extremely furious pace. I had the opportunity to speak with bassist/vocalist Alex Camargo about the band and their eighth full-length release. Here is how the conversation went.
Now that your new release, The Great Execution is complete how do you feel about it and are you satisfied with the outcome
Alex: Yeah I am really satisfied. The feedback has been great and it is impossible to believe all the great reviews. The kids are liking it so everything is good. I am really satisfied but all that really matters is that the people like it.
What is your writing process like?
Alex: Actually we all jam together when we are writing. We always do things together. I might put some riffs together but in the end it all comes together in a jamming session in one room with the whole band playing. It is more natural that way.
Where does your inspiration from?
Alex: Inspiration comes from everyday life. Not only news but things that are on our mind and we just try and express them.
Are there any tracks on the disc that are personal favorites or that have good stories behind them?
Alex: I guess the opening track, “The Will Potency” because there is something special about it. Our friend did the intro on the acoustic guitar and he did a really good job.
The art work is quite amazing?
Alex: Yeah it was hand drawn by a Japanese artist. He heard a few songs and became inspired and came up with the idea. We love it and here we are.
You guys have been at this for a long time; The Great Execution is your 8th full length release. Did you ever imagine you would still be doing this so many years later?
Alex: Actually no, it just sort of happened.
What kind of touring plans do you have in support of the record?
Alex: We are going to Europe and the United States pretty soon and then there are some big announcements to be made as well. We are going to try and go to Canada, Asia and all over the place.
Is there any place you have not been that you would like to get to?
Alex: Probably Asia we played Japan 10 years ago and I am looking forward to going back to play there again.
Do you still enjoy being on the road or do you find it more difficult?
Alex: I really enjoy it. All the traveling to a different place is so much fun.
Any closing words at all.
Alex: Thank you for the interview and thank you to anyone who has been supporting us throughout the years we really appreciate it.
