The Skinny: A Hardcore Punk band hailing from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania (aka The Land of Kings as they so proudly call it), Wisdom In Chains is often dubbed “Hardcore Street Punk” due to their lyrics which speak of both the hard life and growing up in the ghetto. They’ve been around for a few years now and originally featured members from both Europe and America; the distance however would lead founding Dutch guitarist Maarten to recommend to the band to carry on without him. Thankfully the group rounded out their lineup and have continued to play killer street rock combined with heavy old school HC and OI influences.

Wisdom In Chains would release their first album in 2003 to acclaimed local reviews. Post-release the band hit the round and honed their chops through constant gigging. After quite some time, though it was worth the wait, WIC released their new record, Everything You Know, in November of 2009. The album offered a much-improved band, one whose sound may be similar to that of your average hardcore punk band, but on that also shows that WIC definitely mix things up. They have better chord progression, catchier hooks, better tonality and I could go on but basically, they don’t end up being your average hardcore punk act whatsoever. Whatever they do, they do it right.

Currently on tour in Europe supporting the new release, Wisdom In Chains has only six North American tour dates planned so far, including “The Ritz: Superbowl of Hardcore” in New York City, New York. Next time they come through your town, be sure to check them out! For now, pick up an album and enjoy the music video for their song “Back To The Ocean”.  [ END ]
