Album Review
Goatwhore
Carving Out the Eyes of God (06.23.2009)
Metal Blade recording artists Goatwhore released their latest offering Carving Out the Eyes of God on June 23rd. Let me be the first to say, that this is one un-freaking believable album. I am a newbie to the Goatwhore camp and have had no previous exposure to these guys other than what I have read. I have to be honest, from the very first song, “Apocalyptic Havoc,” I was sold hook, line and sinker.
Brash and in your face, this CD grabs you by the balls and does not let go. Goatwhore brings the heaviness right from the start by setting the bar so high I didn’t think they would be able follow through all the way till the end. Man was I wrong. Track after scorching track batter the listener with powerful heavy thrashing riffs.
Hailing from New Orleans the band melds what their bio describes as “American No-Frills Black Metal” with a good amount of thrash and death metal, resulting in a ferocious and vicious aural assault that should please every metal fan out there.
This record has been hyped for a while now and I have been anticipating it the whole time. I can say with all honestly I love the ENTIRE album, which is atypical for me, especially in this genre. I usually find at least a couple of songs that I feel do not make the cut, but such was not the case here. Carving Out the Eyes of God is must have CD for metal fans everywhere. I suggest you run… not walk to your nearest retailer and pick up a copy of this CD; it is that good. [ END ]
