Album Review
Gyre – “The Veins of Everyone” [EP]
I’m going to start this off with the following statement; Gyre could very well be the future of Rock, Hardcore, and Metal. Yes, that’s right. All three. This album is the closest thing to real Hardcore I’ve heard since The Refused. A combination of heavy melodies, angst, anger, and rebellion are all formed into one unique sound that has been lost over the ages. Gyre has honed this sound, and is now using it as a weapon.

In case you are not aware, a gyre is a vortex. So, the name is very fitting; anyone that pops this disc in will be immediately sucked in and submersed within the music. When I first pressed play, I thought it was only going to be an okay EP, but I was proven wrong… like many times before with hardcore music. The music is rich with talent and knowledge of the genre. Every member has mastered the techniques needed to utilize their instrument, merging not only their bodies, but their minds with their instruments as they play.
“Whoreses and Cooks” is one of the most original tracks I have ever heard. It starts off acoustically, with a mellow drum beat back in behind. Once the vocals begin, the instrumentation gets much heavier, but not too heavy to make your ears implode. The combination of crazy screams, chants, and clean vocals are exactly what most hardcore fans are looking for. Chants are always fun, especially at a live concert!
Gyre would be a perfect opener band for The Holly Springs Disaster, or even Straight Reads The Line. I invite you to join me as I enjoy this musical accomplishment. So, what are you waiting for? Step inside the vortex. [ END ]
