Okay… I’m going to be very blunt with this. I’m not a very big Power Metal fan. I’m not fond of the balls-stuck-in-a-vice-grip vocals. However!!! I fucking love this band. The style of Power Metal this band pulls out of their asses is more along the lines of Kamelot, which is a great accomplishment. The band has only been going for 7 years or so, which is quite a bit of ground to cover in such a short amount of time.

The instrumentation is mostly what you would expect from a Progressive Power Metal band; heavy but melodic. There are also a couple portions of tracks that contain acoustical pieces. Also, as many progressive bands have, Serenity does have a keyboardist. Keyboards always add a certain quality that portrays the music to be a tad more elegant, I find anyway.

I especially liked the track “Engraved Within”. The vocals matched up perfectly with the instrumentation. There was also a small breakdown! Not very common to see one of those in Power Metal. The bridge was very interesting as well, rendering a somewhat ‘Star Wars’-like theme. Rather interesting if I may add.

All in all, I’d recommend this album to just about anyone. A Judas Priest fan, a Children of Bodom fan, even a Trivium fan. And I bet none of you would guess they were Austrian! You’ve got to love the Europeans for their musical abilities.  [ END ]
