Street Drum Corps

Self-Titled (2006)

Now here’s a band ya don’t hear too often. 3 Percussionists, Bobby Alt (S.T.U.N., Faculty X), Adam Alt (Circus Minor), and Frank Zummo (The Start) from different bands pulled together to create SDC.

Street Drum Corps uses instruments such as a Moog Theremin, acoustic drum kits, buckets, recycled aluminum garbage cans, hand drums, marching band equipment and even bangable kitchenware. During the summer and fall, Street Drum Corps can be found at the Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park in Los Angeles.

The album consists of 8 tracks and a bonus DVD. An album that should purely be enjoyed and better seen live. It’s easy for other people to say that “they bang on things”, but to make music out of it is another. The second track “Wreck” has lyrics to a catchy scratch beat. “…if I can help these kids go out there and actually drum and make money doing what they actually love then I’ll be really happy at the end of the day”. This album rocks; although short it incorporates big beats, dance beats, hip-hop and industrial elements.

It could very well be that Bert Mckraken has helped in one way or another to draw attention to this band, but the band based on talent alone can surely do it on their own. The band along with Mckraken came together to cover an old Christmas Track “Happy Christmas (War Is Over)” by John Lennon for the Taste of Christmas compilation, they’ve also got together to make a video for it. Bert, a well-known supporter of the band is only the beginning, other bands such as Bad Religion, Good Charlotte. Atreyu, Strung Out to name a few, have joined the boys on stage.

“Street Drum Corps dedicates its time to getting street performers, the kids, and the planet together to create art that allows you to express who you are and what you love”.
Please Recycle & Love Your neighbour. SDC

“Body Sounds 101” is short sweet and to the point with non-other then human body sounds. “Flaco 81” has had Bert Mckraken performing alongside SDC during their tour together. This is one of those albums you grab people and say “check this shit out”, and I don’t mean shit as in dog dodo, I mean shit as in f*cking great.

The DVD portion of the two disc is as follows:
“SDC Alive in Vancouver”
“Flaco 81” Music Video
Plus Behind the Scenes Footage.

9/10 for being so damn awesome!  [ END ]
