“Here’s the girl with the little red shoes. She spends all your money and drinks all your booze. She’s got no cherry but that’s no sin. She’s still got the box the cherry came in.” Clever, I could see a band like Tattooed Millionaires saying something like that.

Ok so what we’ve got here is a female fronted band, whose style resembles those of Janis Joplin, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett and many others. Now what do all those frontwomen have in common? They all wear their heart on their guitar strap, or mic stand.

Pushboxx has that classic rock sound to them. Adding a woman to sing in the mix makes the band more different from what is out there now. Previous to forming in 2002, the band used to be a “cover” band. Their debut album has been disbursed onto the scene last September and has released “Don’t want to say goodbye” as their first single. Radio stations have been receptive to the track.

Clearly Pushboxx is targeting all new Classic Rock stations over the web in order to support their debut album. As abovementioned, the album is being received, but we all know that a band needs to tour, and that they have just embarked on.

As for the album, the opening track “What to Believe” truly resembles that of a classic rock tune. The second track is a cover, and by whom your wondering, well, she swallowed a Jagged Little Pill back the in day and taught us that we “can’t do that on television”, give up? None other then Canadian Alanis Morissette. Vocally the track is awesome, as for musically I don’t think it does it justice, and some of you might think why would I even give that song justice at all?

There are no lyrics in the liner notes, which don’t make the 42:27 go by any faster. But from what I gather, most topics on the album are about love and what not. Another cover on the album is 4 non-blondes “What’s Up” (originally sung by Linda Perry), like “Uninvited” it’s sung really well. But I wish during the ‘Hey yeah yeaaah’ she would have belted it out. I know she can, it seems held back, ok so she might not want to Mariah Carey-ize the song but the falsetto was pretty low.

If the musical market today was calling for new classic rock sounding bands then Pushboxx could definitely make their mark, but since there isn’t such a popular demand this band is going to have to tour like mad and get their CD into the hands of radio stations.

Musically the band is pretty solid, some guitar solos here and there, some good lyrics and a talented frontwomen. If their label pushes this to the max I’m sure some good will come from it, but unfortunately I don’t see them selling thousands upon thousands of CDs, which is sad. What does a good band have to do today to sell a few records?

The album isn’t my cup of tea, don’t get me wrong I didn’t say it was a terrible album, it doesn’t tickle my taste buds, but it will definitely tickle others.
