epic metal

I was promised some banging heavy metal and that is precisely what I got on the new album from Canadian epic power metallers, Crimson Shadows. Right from the booming introduction, “March To Victory,” this album is for those who like their heavy metal to be traditional, and by that I mean songs about big, epic battles played by beered-up blokes who like their metal loud and fast and their steel dripping with the blood of their foe!

Both Fleshgod Apocalypse and Wintersun played the Irving plaza to a totally pumped up and sold out crowd. The mosh pit was in full effect with plenty of crowd surfing to boot. Wintersun killed it with a hour plus long set. Jari Mäenpää’s vocals were tight as they ran through tune after solid tune.

Sweden’s Eldkraft is a musical constellation whose primary foundation rests on epic metal while drawing experimental influences from ancestral musical traditions of the North and spiritual guidance of its hermetic crafts. Shaman, the debut album, is a psychedelic trip gazed upon through contemporary elements, circumnavigating journeys of knowledge, growth and the ecstasy of the soul. Head below to check out the new song “Gränslos Gräns”!

Fire up your home heaters and stock up on necessities. Bring the dogs and cats in and shutter your windows. Make sure you have enough food and water to last your family for the imminent Ice Age. This autumn, the grand Wintersun shall freeze the world over again after an eight-year absence from the extreme metal scene. Be prepared for the frigid beauty of Time I.

Blackguard are one of the hardest working bands in metal today. Since the release of their album Profugus Mortis the group has not stopped touring; destroying every stage on which they perform. Though their road warrior lifestyle has resulted in the loss of a few members along the way, Blackguard has been able to garner a strong following and their continued drive seems to result in exciting new music.

Paul “Ablaze” Zinay, vocalist for the metal band Blackguard took some time out of his busy touring schedule to answer some questions about the group’s newest release, Firefight. This release is an all-out assault on the senses right from the beginning; brash, aggressive and in-your-face these tunes will have listeners’ snapping their necks in no time at all. I had the opportunity to spend some time with these guys and see them perform on the 70,000 Tons Of Metal Cruise and let me tell you, this is some real good stuff.
