KRANKk x Ragga Twins – “THINK” [Song Review]
KRANKk teams up with the Ragga Twins on their new single, “THINK,” a song probing societal venality and the plague of war.
Belgian drum and bass trio KRANKk teams up with the Ragga Twins on their new single, “THINK,” a song probing societal venality and the plague of war.
“THINK” provides listeners with a foretaste of KRANKk’s upcoming second album, Late Nights In Antwerp, featuring collaborations with artists like Selah Sue, Yann Gaudeuille, A-F-R-O, Splurgeboys, Logan_olm, and the Ragga Twins.
Made up of Aram Abgaryan (keyboards), Thomas Geysen (drums), and Willem Heylen (guitar), KRANKk came out of the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. Their sound merges elements of electronic music doused in drum and bass, dubstep, and UK garage. It’s a sound conjuring up suggestions of Burial and Noisia.
Since the early ’90s, the Ragga Twins, aka the Destouche brothers, aka Flinty Badman and Deman Rocker, have released significant singles such as “Ragga Trip,” “Hooligan 69,” and “Spliffhead,” fierce blends of reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and breakbeats.
Drenched in flavors of reggae fused with drum and bass, “THINK” rolls out on a powerful, pulsating rhythm featuring deep basslines topped by a gleaming topline of synthesized effects. Rasping, rapid-fire, rapping vocals imbue the lyrics with an urgent message to “think before you do.”
“THINK” plunges and snakes between heady savors of hip-hop, dancehall, reggae, EDM, and controlled rap production.
