Trash Fiasco Premiere Their Frenzied New Single “Ma.lin.ger”
Chicago punk trio Trash Fiasco premiere their new single “Ma.lin.ger” off of their upcoming new full-length album ‘Exist as Instructed.’
Back again with more grit, grime, and greatness for you is Trash Fiasco, with their brand new single “Ma.lin.ger.” It’s the follow-up single to “One Bird,” with both songs to be featured on the band’s upcoming album, Exist as Instructed. With the album not due out until March 20th, “Ma.lin.ger” is a blast of the unfiltered rage you will find on this new offering from the Chicago garage rockers. Exist as Instructed features a rather dark narrative, and this song is representative of that theme.
Each of the album’s eight songs is like its own burst of fury, and “Ma.lin.ger” particularly stands out. The song is an account of a character who is mired in a downward spiral. Within that spiral, they begin to lose themselves more and more. Eventually, the only conclusion they can come to is that a race to the bottom is the only potential way out.
With a few thoughts on the new song, singer and guitarist Frank Bruno offers:
“As purposeful as the lyrics are, and as dynamic as the music is, the vocal approach is a real highlight on this track. Mirroring the frenzied state of the character in the vocal inflections was a challenge, but it came through as intense and manic as we had hoped.”
The pandemic and its associated lockdowns obviously created a lot of anger and anxiety, which fortunately helped inspire acts like Trash Fiasco. The Chicago trio was born out of the fury driven by the pandemic, which has certainly guided the musical approach of the band. They released their debut record, Stay Miserable, in 2021. It helped introduce the band’s intense approach and ability to hit on the collective anger of the era. They followed that album up with a series of singles, such as “Bastard From a Basket.” It’s all led up to the release of Exist as Instructed. If you like energy and chaos in its best form, you will make for a good pupil of Trash Fiasco.
