All Things May Be is the new EP from Meli Levi, marking their return to music after a 5-year hiatus during which they studied meditation-based healing techniques. All Things May Be is a warmly emotive patchwork of memories and moments.

“A song can recall a powerful memory or inspire someone to forgive a person they’ve been upset at—music has that power—and I try to be aware of what I put out in the world with my songs,” says Levi.

Levi’s sound fuses servings of folk-rock and alt-rock seasoned with hints of blues. Their songs reveal their complex familial relationships, their healing from alcohol and substance abuse, their experiences as a meditator, and their own journey in the music biz.

They explain, “I am at a point where I see a lot of males in the industry and, as a queer female, I want to be the change I see, and hear, in the world.”

Levi’s 2023 NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest entry was named one of KALW 91.7 FM San Francisco’s local favorites. They have performed at Railroad Square Music Festival, Portland Pride Festival, and SXSW, and they have toured the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.

Made up of five tracks, high points on the EP include opener “Every Song I Sing,” flavored with touches of Motown and country. Strong and evocative, there’s an organic tone to Levi’s voice that’s emotionally unmasking and alluring.

With its Latin-jazz feel, “Move with Me” offers undulating textures riding a tight groove. Tempo and melodic shifts give the tune a mesmerizing, dreamy mood. A personal favorite because of its Liz Phair-like alt-rock flow, “Close to You” features darker guitars juxtaposing luminous vocals.

The splendid, layered vocal harmonies on the title track, which closes the EP, are worth the price of admission.

Because of its effortless yet vibrant feel and Meli Levi’s telling voice, All Things May Be is charming in its own right.
