Up-and-coming LGBTQ+ alt-pop singer-songwriter EZI releases her latest single, “Cold Cement,” a song lifted from her forthcoming debut album, Into Your Power, Into The Light.

Talking about the song, EZI says, “I wrote ‘Cold Cement’ about a heartbreak. About falling into somebody that ultimately feels like concrete when you get to the bottom of who they are.”

EZI, aka Esther Zyskind, hails from Long Island. Initially an actress, she starred in The Other Kingdom on Nickelodeon, followed by signing with Steve Madden’s 5Towns Records. She dropped her debut EP, AFRAID OF THE DARK, in 2018, featuring the title track and “DaNcing in a RoOm.” The EP amassed over 25 million streams. In 2022, her cover of “Take My Breath Away” collected more than 18 million streams.

Emerging on dark, drifting tones, followed by EZI’s bewitching, dreamy vocals, “Cold Cement” flows into a tight, syncopated rhythm as moody surfaces painted with soft, glittering auras infuse the harmonics with aching, melancholic ambiance. There’s an icy undertone to the melody, giving the tune an inflexible sensation, mirroring the stark emotional presence of EZI’s lover.
