Following a brief leg overseas, PinkPantheress arrived for two sold-out nights in Flatbush at the Brooklyn Paramount as she embarks on “The Capable of Love Tour.” The English-born artist released her debut studio album, Heaven Knows. back in November of 2023 to sustain momentum after achieving much praise on social media for her 2021 mixtape, to hell with it, featuring notable tracks including “Pain,” “Break It Off,” and “Last valentines.”

The Brooklyn Paramount has existed since the late 1920s and was known as “America’s first movie theater built for sound.” The walls of this historic theater have encompassed many artists responsible for the foundation of music as we observe it today, such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, and Frank Sinatra. Fast forward to today, when its doors reopen after a lengthy renovation to host a new generation of creators.

Despite her songs being somewhat short in length, PinkPantheress was able to put together a solid hour-long set with very little downtime between songs. Her quick wit, combined with a stellar ability to read the room, showers those in attendance with a sensation comparable to seeing an old friend from secondary school. Her crowd interactions were exceedingly genuine, and a majority of her dialogue was clearly unscripted as it was fueled by what was in front of her at that moment. For instance, she recognizes multiple fans she has met in the past and politely asks if she can borrow their purse to wear for the entirety of a song. One of the fans she recognized even handed her a letter that she promised to read before going to bed.

The live band was a great fit, considering her production style consists of drum and bass, jungle and hyperpop fusion. As the band’s impact as a unit was tight, the group’s drummer had a particularly impressive performance as he is the spearhead for most of her compositions. The first guest of the night was D.C. alternative R&B artist Kelela. PinkPantheress expressed, “I’m going to cry, I’ve got somebody that I have looked up to my whole life, my whole career, my whole conscious life listening to music” before being embraced by Kelela on stage during their collaboration “Bury me.”

Towards the back half of the show, PinkPantheress scanned the front row to find a specific attendee to let her know that she was starting to experience a panic attack on stage but felt stabilized when she looked into her eyes. As the night came to a close, New York’s own Ice Spice appeared for a tasteful performance of “Boys a liar Pt. 2” ahead of a two-song encore.

As for what’s next for this 23-year-old sensation, PinkPantheress will join Olivia Rodrigo as a special guest for her ongoing “Guts World Tour,” which will have a dozen dates starting in Philadelphia and concluding in Portland before the tour’s final stop in Los Angeles.
